Introducing Mario, a German national and cultural anthropologist, who has lived and worked in Germany, Taiwan (10 years), and Japan (25 years.)
He's a part-time language consultant/teacher, as well as a true foodie.
Mario loves Kumamoto, where he has lived and raised a family with his Japanese wife. He knows GREAT local places to eat and drink in his adopted home, and is happy to share his knowledge with guests from around the world in 4 languages. Mario's fluent in German, English, Mandarin Chinese and Japanese.
He's an avid baker who loves sailing, board games, and touring in his BMW.


Mario's tours are all custom and as a rule start and end at Kumamoto Station, though hotel pick-up is available upon request.
Tours are available on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays.
1. Lunch tours start at 12pm, include all food, drinks, and transportation. Choose from a choice of 3 or 4 local specialties.
US $160 per person.
2. Lunch and hidden cafe tours start at 11:30am and include all food, drinks, and transportation. Features local specialties such as tonkatsu (below) or Kumamoto's best ramen, followed by hand-roasted gourmet coffee that you won't find anywhere but in Kumamoto.
US $190 per person.
3. Dinner tours take you to a casual but unforgettable Chateaubriand yakiniku dinner with beer. The Japanese beef served is so tender that the chef grilling it at your table cuts it with a fork. Amazing!
US $220 per person.
